Oriental Motor is pleased to introduce our CVD series bipolar drivers (from our CVK series). They are offered with either the mounting plate or board type mounting configurations. The CVD Series is a compact standardized 24 VDC driver providing the lowest noise and vibration available through the fully digital full-time microstepping control circuit. The CVD drivers can be used with any 2-phase 1.8° or 0.9°stepper motor. With a simple rotary current adjustment switch, it is easy to set the running current, achieving advanced performance for a wide variety of stepper motors. For the optimum results, combine it with any PKP series high torque stepper motor for the most ideal torque and speed performance for your specific application, or select a CVK series motor+driver package model to ensure guaranteed performance between motor and driver.

CVD Series bipolar (4 lead wire) drivers are available in two mounting types, Mounting board with parallel connectors or Board only with 90° mounted onnectors.

Lowest Vibration and Noise with Advanced Microstepping Control
Superior low vibration and noise characteristics by using the fully digital full-time microstepping control circuit. The Smooth Drive microstepping feature with higher current control reduces the basic step angle to a maximum resolution of 2048. As a result, significantly reduced step vibration in the low speed range is
achieved. For the mid speed ranges, the vibration has been suppressed enabling a more stable torque characteristic.

Small, thin microstepping drive with space saving FETs
The CVD Series, with mounting on both sides of the board, now uses space saving FETs and new capacitors to reduce the overall height of the driver.
No Heat Sink is required.

Selectable Step Angle, Smooth Drive and Run Current Control
The CVD driver has a step resolution switch to allow for matching the input pulse frequency of the controller. Simply use the step angle setting switch to set the input pulses desired. Output pulses are theoretical values as the Smooth Drive feature ensures maximum step performance operation of the stepper motor. The Smooth Drive microstepping control will still be utilized.

Smooth Drive is a function to achieve lower vibration and noise at low speed operation without changing the step angle setting. This function divides the step angle automatically in response to the pulse signals. There is no need to change the setting of the pulse signals (speed, number of pulses) on the controller side. Set the smooth drive function with the OFF/SD selection switch.

The motor current (operating current) can be changed with the RUN Current switch. This feature allows the CVD Series to be matched to a wide range of motor current ratings. See chart for the appropriate CVD driver current output. Another use, if the load is small and there is an ample allowance for torque, motor
temperature rise can be suppressed by setting a lower operating current. The operating current is a value in which the operating current rate is multiplied by the rated current (100%). Minimum current is 25% of rated and selectable in 5% increments.

Alarms
Monitor the driver performance for early detection of any abnormalities. All CVD drivers have built in alarms to alert when there is a problem. The alarms are both a blinking LED and an Alarm signal to an upper controller. Alarms range from Overheat, Overvoltage, Overcurrent to EEPROM error and CPU error. Motor loses holding force when alarm is generated. Holding torque is generated for overvoltage alarm only.
