Q: How long does it take for your SMK series low-speed synchronous motors to accelerate up to 72 RPM (motor speed)?
A: Quick starting and stopping characteristics are some of features offered by our low-speed synchronous motors. They are basically AC wound step motors. Because of this design, the motor can rotate without slip. If your load inertia is not greater than the permissible load inertia values in our literature, then the motor will accelerate to 72 RPM within 5~25 milliseconds. When the power is cut off to the motor, it will stop within +/- 3.6 deg. These motors are offered at a fraction of the cost of a step motor system so it would be a good alternative if you don't necessarily need the superior starting and stopping characteristics of our step motors.
