Cycling power to torque motors

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Thu Apr 30, 2015 5:43 pm

Q: For my specific winding application, I need to cycle power to a torque motor, but I cannot find any specifications on how often I can turn on/off excitation to the torque motor. Can you help me?

A: There is no specification of the cycle time for a torque motor. It can be turned on and off, but this charges and discharges the capacitor. This charging and discharging leads to more current which may lead to heating up the motor. For this reason, the case temperature of the motor should be monitored and prevented from reaching 100 degrees Celsius.
