Q: In your brushless motor driver manual, you have the following statement,
"Do not use a solid-state relay (SSR) to turn on/off the power
A circuit that turns on/off the power via a solid-state relay (SSR) may damage the motor and driver."
Can you explain the reason behind this? How would it damage the motor and driver? My existing safety system / emergency stop design has limit switches which are hooked up to solid-state relays which control the power to the motor driver. I prefer to keep the same safety system design intact if I can.
A: We would suggest that you follow our manual's instructions to avoid using a solid-state relay to turn on/off power on our brushless motor drivers. We believe that leakage current within solid-state relays may cause shorts and damage the internal components such as the fuse and FETs (field-effect transistors). There could also be inrush current issues since the power supplied to the driver may turn on/off frequently by the solid-state relay due to the leakage current.
