DG II: Can a load be mounted horizontally/vertically?

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Wed Jul 03, 2013 10:06 am

Q: Hi, can the DG II series rotary actuators be mounted in a vertical position (the rotation centerline is parallel to the floor)? I am interested in the DGII size 200 for some very precise motion for an inspection machine.

A: Yes you can mount a load to the DG II series rotary actuators with its rotational axis parallel to the floor. However, your thrust load now becomes a moment load so you'll have to confirm if the DG200 rotary actuator can handle it. The DG200 can handle a thrust load of 900 lbs or 4000 Newtons and a maximum moment load of 880 lb-in or 100 Nm while keeping a repetitive positioning accuracy of +/- 15 arc seconds or +/- 0.004 degrees with very precise table runout and parallelism.

For instructions on how to calculate your moment load for our DG rotary actuators, please click the link below and see page G-33:

The PDF above also teaches how to size DG series actuators properly.

You can also use the following motor sizing calculator on our website to calculate your torque, inertia, and speed requirements (registration is required):
