ARD-CD driver data setting via rs485 Communication

Postby mhar101 » Wed Sep 30, 2015 8:25 pm

Hi our company purchased a EACM4D20ARMC linear actuator with ARD-CD, AR Series Driver with Built-in Controller (Stored Data) (Single-Phase 200-240 VAC), we dont have neither the OPX-2A nor the CC05IF-USB cable, the last option is setting the data via RS485 Communication, can you give us a tutorial on how to do this setting, what hardware we be using as well as the software.

thank you we will appreciate if you answer this.

Hi mhar101,

To be able to set the stored data within the ARD-CD driver via RS-485, you need to have a working knowledge of Modbus RTU open source industrial communication protocol which is derived from master/slave architecture. You also need your own software either included with the PLC you're using, or developed on your own.

The only tutorial we have is something like this:
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=716

Here's some general info about Modbus:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modbus

If you do not have your own software, you can download a freeware like this (however, it's only offered as a test software):
ComTest Pro: http://www.baseblock.com/PAGES/ACDRIVES/BEE.htm

However, if you do not have working knowledge of Modbus RTU protocol, it could take a while to learn.

I would highly suggest that you download the MEXE02 software from here to make your job easier and quicker:
http://www.orientalmotor.com/support/so ... tware.html

And request the CC05IF-USB cable for free from your local Oriental Motor office here:
http://www.orientalmotor.com/company/locator.epl
or
http://www.orientalmotor.com/company/gl ... pport.html

The MEXE02 software includes several helpful functions such as I/O monitor, I/O assignments, I/O logic, motor parameters and more. These functions have proved very useful during the initial setup/test phase. It's also much easier and quicker to use for setting data as well as internal motor/driver parameters. In the USA, we typically have the cable in stock so we can ship same day.
