NX: S-ON input in Position Control Mode

Postby om_tech_support_JT » Mon Dec 17, 2012 6:40 pm

Q: I have my NX series servo motor driver set to "position control mode", I do have my motor connected, I have no alarms, I have power, and I am sending pulses into the CW and CCW inputs. However, the motor does not rotate. Actually, it doesn't even seem like it's on. Can you help troubleshoot?

A: Before you input pulses into the CW or CCW inputs of the NX driver in position control mode, you must turn on the S-ON input to excite the motor. If you have an electromagnetic brake type motor, turning on the S-ON input will also release the electromagnetic brake after the motor has been excited. If the S-ON input is off when you are sending pulses, then the pulses would be ignored. You can treat this like an "enable" input that excites the motor at a standstill state with holding torque. The motor and driver are both ready to accept pulses and rotate at this state.
