Hi Tony,

When selecting a new motor for an application, there will be several factors that you will need to consider in order to help minimize the options.

You already have the speed that the motor needs to operate at. Apart from the speed, the torque and the inertia values are also important when selecting the appropriate motor. To assist in calculating these values, we offer free sizing software on our website. A link to this software is below:

Other than these key values, you can also consider the function of different motors. One option would be to go with an induction motor. The induction motor will rotate at a specific speed based on the gear ratio and load that is connected to the motor. If you require the ability to control the speed, or are looking for a more consistent set speed, then you may want to consider going with an AC speed control motor or a brushless DC speed control system. Knowing what input voltage you wish to supply to the motor will also help in selecting which product you select for your application.

Lastly, your environment may also play a role in the motor selection that you make. If there is a specific size requirement that needs to be met, or if a specific IP rating needs to be met, then this could limit the motor options.
